About two thirds of West Virginia’s adolescents are not fully vaccinated against HPV and its related cancers. We can change this and protect them from a future of cancer.

West Virginia HPV Vaccination Campaign
West Virginia has some of the highest rates of HPV-associated cancers in the nation. Nine types of human papillomavirus (HPV) and its associated cancers are preventable through vaccination, yet West Virginia’s HPV vaccination rates remain low. In fact, in 2015, only 39% of females and 27% of males between the ages of 13 and 17 years of age in West Virginia were fully vaccinated against HPV. Together we can change this and protect our teens from a future of cancer… We Are the Key.

The purpose of this campaign is to increase the use of evidence-based strategies, especially a strong recommendation for HPV vaccination, among healthcare facilities across West Virginia in order to improve HPV vaccination series completion rates.

Join the Campaign
The We Are the Key campaign includes the following components:

•  HPV Vaccination Pledge: This pledge shows the clinic’s/practice’s willingness to prioritize HPV vaccination and achieve 80% HPV vaccination coverage among patients. The medical director or physician can “sign” the pledge electronically and submit via SurveyMonkey, along with their contact info so that the campaign coordinators can mail them their printed pledge and send them their WVSIIS reports. The pledge will be printed on certificate paper and sent to the healthcare facility to display in their office.
• Honor Roll: The WIN website hosts an HPV Vaccination Honor Roll to recognize the healthcare facilities that have signed the pledge. The Honor Roll will also highlight accomplishments and campaign outcomes.
• Vaccination Reports: Campaign participants will receive quarterly reports so that they can track their improvements. The WV Statewide Immunization Information System (WVSIIS) will provide quarterly reports to each clinic/practice that has signed the pledge informing them of the number of HPV vaccines provided by the clinic for that quarter along with their HPV vaccination numbers from the same quarter of the previous year, which will serve as a baseline. The healthcare facilities’ WVSIIS data will not be made available on the campaign webpage, unless approved by the clinic/practice for the purposes of recognizing a major accomplishment.
• Training Opportunities: Regional HPV Trainings and webinars will be available to those who have signed onto the pledge. WIN training opportunities are located here.
