Proceedings of the 2011 WV Perinatal Summit

The summit was held on December 1-2, 2011, in Charleston, WV and sponsored by: The WV Perinatal Partnership and The CAMC Health Education and Research Institute and co-sponsored by: March of Dimes, WV Chapter; Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health, WVDHHR; Division of Tobacco Prevention, WVDHHR; and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) WV Chapter.

Overview

This program was designed to bring together multiple disciplines that provide perinatal healthcare through clinical practice, community programs and professional and patient education. Local and regionally recognized faculty will encourage participants to consider collaborative, innovative strategies when faced with challenges in perinatal healthcare delivery and education. Specific objectives were to help participants:

  • Understand and put into practice new obstetrical and neonatal guidelines
  • Collaborate to increase favorable birth outcomes, decreasing risks for the underserved
  • Utilize data regarding gestational diabetes and addictive substance use during pregnancy to drive best practices
  • Understand and design efforts to increase successful birthing processes
  • Build and strengthen the West Virginia Perinatal Partnership
